Meet Team Fly Bye

Alyssa Caples

Alyssa Caples is a 5th year at the University of Florida majoring in Electrical Engineering with a Computer Science minor. She is expected to graduate in spring of 2023. She is originally from Oviedo, FL. This past summer, Alyssa was in Seattle interning at Microsoft. Prior to that, Alyssa interned with CACI in Sarasota and Denver. Beyond her professional portfolio, Alyssa was previously the President of the UF Society of Women Engineers and was part of last year’s cohort of Reitz Scholars. For the last two years, Alyssa has been an undergraduate researcher at the Florida Institute of Cybersecurity, researching computer vision and AI.


Sebastian Fauré

Sebastian Fauré is currently in his 4th year of study at the University of Florida majoring in Computer Science, minoring in Philosophy, and working toward a certificate in Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals and Applications. During the past two summers, Sebastian participated in software engineering internships with Amazon Lab126. At school, Sebastian has been involved with professional and student organizations including the Baptist Collegiate Ministry, CS@Mines Developing Hidden Talents Program, the Undergraduate Philosophy Society, and is currently the president of Global Connections. In addition to his academics and extracurricular activities, Sebastian is an Eagle Scout and a Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar. Outside of school, Sebastian enjoys studying the Bible, having Jazz jam sessions with friends, and playing sports.


Whitney Glomb

Whitney Glomb is a 5th year Mechanical Engineering major here at the University of Florida, she is expected to graduate in the Spring of 2023. Whitney was raised in DeBary, FL and is proud to be the second Florida Gator in her family after her father. Whitney took the previous spring semester away from school on a co-op for Mechanical Design with Southern Company in Birmingham, Alabama. This was her second semester with the company. Previously Whitney has also interned in the field of construction. Whitney likes to be active on campus, she was previously on the Standards Board for her sorority, Phi Sigma Rho and she is currently Recruitment Chair for the Engineering Ambassadors. Whitney has long been passionate about the environment and conservation. She is interested in the design of mechanical systems and robotics. Whitney wishes to make a positive impact on the world and hopes her work as an engineer is able to help others.


Adam Havens

Adam Havens is a third-year honors student at the University of Florida majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics with minors in Electrical Engineering and Russian. He will graduate no later than May 2024. Adam is the website manager and social media director of People for Animal Wellness, a student-run organization at UF. In August 2022, he created and published its website, www.ufpaw.org. He also managed a team of 4 in early 2022 to create a web application in Python that solves equations and provides answer explanations.

Adam cares deeply about learning in STEM. He has tutored students in math, computer science, and physics since he was 15 years old. As a result, he has helped over 200 students overcome math fears, improve grades, and understand concepts deeply. He has tutored for over 500 hours and still actively tutors today.


Griffin Lay

Griffin Lay is a fourth-year biological engineering undergraduate specializing in biosystems engineering. He is currently working as an undergraduate research assistant in environmental biotechnology, assisting with anaerobic digestion bioreactor operation and water quality analysis for hydroponic applications. Griffin is also the current treasurer for the UF chapter of ASABE, organizing funding for general club events and facilitating other club activities.

Griffin has intermediate proficiency in MATLAB and is a certified SOLIDWORKS Associate in Mechanical Design. He also has previous experience using ANSYS Lumerical for FDTD analysis of nanoparticles. Outside of class, Griffin enjoys indoor and outdoor rock climbing, backpacking, playing instruments, and cycling.
