CONCEPT DESIGN

Due to Hurricane Ian and the impact it had on Southwest Florida, we were delayed last week.

These past two weeks, we focused on concept design, project management, and participated in workshops leading up to the Preliminary Design Review presentation and reports.

We completed our First Month Report, which included the following:

  • Scope of work and expectations
  • Literature review
  • Needs/wants, house of quality, and technical performance measures
  • Concept generation
  • Future roadmap plan

This week, we are gearing up for our Preliminary Design Review Presentation.
This will be the presentation that we bring to Naples for our PDR presentation on October 24.

BREAKING DOWN OUR PROJECT

This week, we began looking into the specifications required for our project by working on our in class assignments, which included listing customer needs, system specifications, house of quality, and technical performance measures. We also created an overall roadmap and assessed risks with our project.

Outside of class, we focused on breaking down the entire system into smaller independent projects.
We were able to create two mini teams to focus on different aspects of the system:

  • Juan and Travis (BME): tubing, canisters, pumps, manifolds
  • Lindsay and Carson (CpE/EE): draining, communication, fluid levels
  • Elizabeth (MechE) will be split across the entire project, with focus on mechanical design

Our next focus will be to research implementation ideas for the subtasks listed above.

TEAM NAME AND PICTURES

We are excited to introduce our team name: SurgiGators! We chose this team name and logo because it reflects the surgical devices and logo of our sponsor company, Arthrex.

This week, we presented our name, logo, and project to the class. We also met up outside of class to discuss our scope of work documents, potential stakeholders of our product, and our product design specifications.
In addition, we had our first meetings with our coach, Professor Hammer, and both of our liaisons from Arthrex. They further explained our project details and helped guide us towards our next steps as a group.

This upcoming week, we will dive deeper into the details of our project and the roadmap for this year.

MEET THE TEAM

Hello and welcome to our blog page! This week, we were assigned our project to create a Waste Management System with Arthrex. We spent the week getting to know each other and learning more about our project.

Here’s a little bit about us:

  • Juan De La Espriella – 4th year Biomedical Engineering. Learned to kitesurf in Spain.
  • Travis Koenig – 4th year Biomedical Engineering. Can snowboard double black diamonds.
  • Lindsay Lord – 5th year Computer Engineering. Likes to surf.
  • Carson Lyttle – 5th year Electrical Engineering. On the UF track team.
  • Elizabeth Wildsmith – 4th year Mechanical Engineering. Was a preview staffer.

This week, we will discuss a team name and logo as well as our our scope of work and stakeholders. We are looking forward to getting started on this exciting and challenging project.
