Prototype Inspection Day

Pythax recently had to generate a series of mockups and prototypes of the two concept-ideas that we’ve been considering thus far: the dueling snakes theme and the tron theme.

Some of these changes started out as conceptual. After creating a series of low-fidelity wireframes to get a sense of where we wanted to put new features, we began to consider themes and designs for each concept. Eventually this led to two prototypes created using the web application Figma, as well as some changes being actually implemented in the code of the system itself which gives us a good head start.

After these prototype ideas were compiled into a slideshow, Pythax presented them to a panel of faculty coaches from the other teams in order to receive feedback on various aspects of the ideas. Through this process we found that certain color schemes were quite unpopular. We initially had intended to incorporate a red-blue scheming for the dueling snakes theme, which was hard on the eyes of some audience members. Ultimately, the tron theme beat out the dueling snakes theme for its clean UI, balanced color scheme, and trueness to the original concept of the system.

Being able to get this feedback from the judges was an enormous help to the team, as it allowed us to streamline our later presentations to focus on a single concept, which allowed the features themselves to get more of the limelight.
