Week 8 was very productive in both the computer and mechanical sides of the project. On the computer side, the team’s computer engineers completed an in depth trade study to backup their component selection suggestions for our liaison. In our meeting with our liaison, they presented their suggestions and the trade study to backup their choices and had a productive discussion finalizing some components that will make it on the final PCB. Now with this completed, the team is starting to create initial drafts of the PCB in preparation for our PID presentation.
On the mechanical side of the project, the team collaborated on further developing the CAD models for the alula mechanism. Not only were we able to nearly finalize the models, but we were also able to start some basic FEA analysis to see whether or not the direction we are going with the mechanism is viable under loads that may be faced in testing conditions. Aside from that, we also started considering how to present our current mechanism idea for the PID presentation. To start, we have begun creating 3D printed models on the alula with plans to continue 3D modeling a wing and mechanism to place it in.
