This week, the Road Watch team attended Six Sigma White Belt training as a team building exercise. The workshop was hosted by our sponsor, FPL. Six Sigma is a method for systematically reducing defects in processes, and is often employed by businesses looking to improve efficiency. Our workshop focused on a variant of Six Sigma called Lean Six Sigma, which augments traditional Six Sigma by also emphasizing a reduction of wasteful effort in processes. The workshop was organized around a car dealership simulation. We first acted out a deliberately inefficient process for selling a car; then, after learning about Lean Six Sigma, we were tasked with improving the process and running the scenario again. The techniques we learned greatly improved our process efficiency. Thank you Ron Flores and Linda Linnus for running the workshop and teaching us. The skills introduced at the workshop will prove useful in optimizing our product development process, so keep checking here weekly to see how we do that.
