That gives us surface area to play with while keeping the center of mass stable. Plus, it\u2019s a good canvas for our \u201cflaps\u201d that pop out to suck up drag when the vehicle slams into the atmosphere.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What\u2019s in the flap\u2011drama?<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>We\u2019re testing how long they are, how far they lean out from the body, and how that changes the center of pressure\/gravity and heat generation&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visually<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>3\u2011D CAD (SolidWorks)<\/strong>: We modeled dozens of \u201cwhat\u2011if\u201d variants, each a slightly tweaked frustum or flap combo.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Heat\u2011Up Analysis (ANSYS)<\/strong>: Those CADs are pulled into a simulation engine that tells us where the air\u2011fire hits hardest and how fast the heat preforms. We down selected our variables to focus on&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Shape<\/strong> of the frustum (how vertex angle and weight distribution effects of COP, COM, and heat generation) 2.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The design of the <strong>flaps <\/strong>(how flap length and angle from frustum effects of COP, COM, and heat generation)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Later<\/strong> the material parameters will be defined and tested.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Brant Chart<\/strong>: This simple, graphic roadmap will line up the work for the next few weeks to keep us organized&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"471\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ippd.ufl.edu\/blogs\/ay2526team10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/223\/2025\/10\/image-1024x471.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ippd.ufl.edu\/blogs\/ay2526team10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/223\/2025\/10\/image-1024x471.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.ippd.ufl.edu\/blogs\/ay2526team10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/223\/2025\/10\/image-300x138.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ippd.ufl.edu\/blogs\/ay2526team10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/223\/2025\/10\/image-768x353.png 768w, https:\/\/www.ippd.ufl.edu\/blogs\/ay2526team10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/223\/2025\/10\/image-1536x706.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.ippd.ufl.edu\/blogs\/ay2526team10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/223\/2025\/10\/image-457x210.png 457w, https:\/\/www.ippd.ufl.edu\/blogs\/ay2526team10\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/223\/2025\/10\/image.png 1916w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Crew &amp; Their Missions<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Who<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td><strong>Mission<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Electrical Duo<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Building the flap\u2011channeled wiring, control loops, and battery budget. +2 handle the tri\u2011state logic to keep the flap actuation smooth and ultra\u2011light.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Modeling Quintet<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Each of us blocks out a new parametric \u201cfamily.\u201d We\u2019ll push the parameters, run the heat\u2011flags, then hand off the best pairings to the electrical folks.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re split to keep things moving. The electrical and modeling workflows are now tightly intertwined \u2013 a bit of code\u2011first, a bit of geometry\u2011first.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Road\u2011Map &amp; Next Tweaks<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lock the baseline shape<\/strong> in SolidWorks \u2013 we\u2019re picking a prototype that balances drag and thermal load.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Run the first ANSYS thermal snapshot<\/strong> \u2013 get a quick heat\u2011flux map so we know where the \u201chot spots\u201d sit.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Finalize the Brant Chart<\/strong> before the weekend \u2013 this ensures we joke about deadlines, not crisis.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Material deep\u2011dive<\/strong> next week \u2013 high\u2011conductivity, low\u2011density alloys (think aluminum\u2011silicon and lightweight composites). We\u2019ll compare them by melting point, oxidation dance, and weight.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the day, it\u2019s a lot of math, a lot of questions to explore down the road.
