Advancement on Google Drive

Hello Everybody! Solaris has continued their progress on adding new features to the Google Drive API in our React prototype. We started the week strong by solidifying our decision to add a new feature related to folder management. We started researching along with focusing on the initial stages of the implementation of this feature. To elaborate, we are working on integrating a feature that will enable to users to seamlessly navigate their folder in our prototype.

Our goal for next week is to continue experimenting with the API and get a few more features added to the prototype. We also will be solidifying which features our liaison wants to add to Parchment. Therefore, some of the team members can start working on the initial stages of implementing certain features into Parchment.

Prototype Progress Continues!

Hello everybody! Solaris is proud to announce that we have made solid progress on implementing the Google Drive API in our React prototype. So far, we have added default file icons to provide easy visualization of the files which will assist us with building the prototype. These icons will be replaced with Parchment’s UX during the final integration, but for now they provide us with a baseline for the visual. We have also successfully used the API to allow files and folders to open from the React app. At this point in time, clicking on the icon of each file opens that file in a separate tab in your browser. The last feature we were able to implement this week is the ability to create files. There is a create file button at the top of the screen that when clicked, provides users with the opportunity to name their new file and choose from a selection of file types (plain text file, Google Doc, Google Slides, or Google Sheets). This file is consequently created in the user’s Google Drive and will show up in the React application once the page is refreshed.

Our goal for this next week is to continue experimenting with the API and get even more features up and running. We have plans to finish this prototype soon and we’re excited to begin integrating our work into Parchment in the future!

See you next week!

Google Drive progress!

Hello everybody!!! Parchment is very excited about this week as we have completed some of the items of work with the Google Drive API and its integration into Parchment. We had a great meeting with Sam our liaison as we discussed the next big feature we are integrating into Parchment, which is the ability to connect google drive folders and files seamlessly into Parchment. The team has already done three big steps towards its progression. First, we created a separate repo from Parchment that would be used to experiment with the API, this was done through a React app. Secondly, we successfully implemented the Google Drive quick start into our react app and successfully connected a personal Gmail account that could utilize the API. Thirdly, we re-evaluated with the team the goals for this feature, and how to space it into phases. Our goal for this week is to experiment much more with the API and its documentation in order to have a good idea as to what it provides. All of this learnings will be documented and tested through Postman. After, we hope to start integrating it into Parchment’s UX and developing designs for how we want the user’s workflow to function. Below is a screenshot of the quick start guide, it’s a very basic UX with one button to connect to the google account but its a great stepping stone for the future!

Thank you and see you all next week with much more progress!

Google Drive, Here We Go!

This week, Solaris has discussed with our engineering liaison on whats to come next for Cloud integration, and due to popular demand by Parchment users, Google Drive is the highest requested! Solaris has begun experimenting with the Google Drive API and have begun setting up the right Google Projects and leveraging the needed endpoints to see what will provide the greatest functionality to Parchment. Solaris has also been working on a sample UI for how the content is to be presented on Parchment. Once all the necessary API endpoints are functional, one of the greatest challenges (if not one of, then the greatest challenge) will be integrating this separate functionality into Parchment directly. This will require a good amount of infrastructure change to adapt this into Parchment, and Solaris is looking forward to the challenge!

Happy New Year!

This week Solaris returns to continue working on Parchment with Captured Sun. We are excited to jump back into the code and develop this amazing application even further. We also look forward to meeting with our Liaison to get an update on the changes the main Captured Sun team has made over the break. Though this isn’t a slow week, we have much to review to prepare for our next task: integrating OneDrive. We are looking forward to making this big leap and major addition to the application and plan on a smooth integration for the app. We look forward to getting back to updating on progress here in the new year! Until next week, here is an image we used to demo Parchment before the break, showing the collaboration on a project team, with everyone having their own files all stored together in one place for easy access and seamless collaboration!

SLDR PRESENTATION RECAP

Hello Everyone! After taking in all the insightful feedback from our presentation last week, Solaris made sure to fine-tune our final SLDR presentation. We made sure it was clear, straight to the point, and added a touch of professionalism by keeping it within the time limit and dressing professional.

Considering the feedback from our peers, Solaris feels that their final SLDR presentation to peers, IPPD coaches, and IPPD sponsors went smoothly—perhaps the best one Solaris has delivered all semester.

Both the frontend and backend teams have been working hard on their tasks. Solaris is ready and looking forward to taking on new challenging goals for next semester.

Solaris’s Preparations for SLDR Week

Hello everybody! This week, Solaris made our System Level Design Review (SLDR) presentation and report. The SLDR presentation was shown to an audience of our peers, IPPD coaches, and IPPD staff on Tuesday and we received some very helpful feedback from this audience! In the coming days, this feedback will go towards polishing our SLDR presentation so that we can present an exemplary model of our work to various industry guests next Tuesday. This SLDR presentation is meant to showcase proof that our designs and work on our project this semester will lead to a product that meets the product’s design specifications.

Our SLDR report will also undergo editing so that we can submit a final, refined version to our sponsor next week. This report includes specific details about our plans for spring and the literature we have reviewed, among a variety of other information.

Both the frontend and backend teams of Solaris have continued making progress on their respective tasks this week, despite our focus on the upcoming SLDR event, and will continue to do so going forward.

See you next week!

This is the introduction slide of our SLDR Presentation from the peer review event.

Major advancements and Prototype Day!

Hello everybody, Solaris has been hard at work this week achieving record progress on all sections of each Trello Cards as well as having a great Prototype Day!

Sarah and Rutvi are now cleaning up minor bugs and stretch goals for their tasks which will soon be part of production. Fernando is hard at work to implement a new text editor that will improve Parchment’s overall user experience. The front-end team as a whole has become more efficient at splitting tasks and communicating to efficiently help each other with obstacles and complete our goals.

The backend team is close to completing all sub tasks found within their Trello Card and have made progress that will soon help Parchment become faster and more efficient!  Solaris as a whole has a better approach to meeting Capture Sun team members, which has allowed all of us to get unblocked and progress much faster.

Finally, Solaris had a great prototype day which allowed us to receive valuable feedback from experts about better ways to approach our project and interesting suggestions about the features we are currently working on. The event was composed of 20-minute presentation rounds to groups of judges that would evaluate us as well as ask questions and provide feedback.

Featured below are pictures of Solaris at Prototype Day with the poster we created!

Progress and Prototype Presentation Preparation

Hi all!

This week Solaris made great progress on their tasks. The backend-team is closer than ever to completing the restructuring of the backend of Parchment, and the completion of this task is growing in importance as its completion will allow other teams in Parchment to significantly their own tasks. Furthermore, the front-end team, tasked with 2 Trello cards, are very close to finishing one of them, which revolves around how elements are rendered to users on the client-side of Parchment, which will significantly improve the user experience in Parchment.

Furthermore, outside of direct work on Parchment, Solaris has been diligently working on ideas for how to present the prototype for next week. After some brainstorming, Solaris has come up with an interactive way for the audience of the prototype to get some hands-on experience with the work done so far. The idea won’t be spoiled, so you’ll have to attend to see it!

Outside of extracurriculars and academic projects/exams blockers, Solaris has been able to make some incremental improvements over its previous work, so we’re excited to continue this momentum.

Hard at Work!

Hey everyone! This week, Solaris presented their Preliminary Design Review (PDR), to great success and satisfaction from our sponsor. With the PDR now behind us, we have been heads down, hard at work on our tasks. The front-end and back-end teams have both met with our sponsor liaison to discuss how best to attack the tasks at hand. The back-end team made great strides this week, getting over the major roadblock of their task, they still have work to do, but the hardest part is behind them now. They are definitely looking to even the score between with the front-end team.

The front-end team is diving more into their tasks, getting better understandings of their tasks to move forward.

We all hope to be able to focus more on this project, more than before, since we’re all on the other side of midterms and many big projects have finished or are going to finish this upcoming week. We’re all excited for the app’s continued development and look forward to presenting at the Prototype presentation later this month.

Overall Score:

Frontend 1-0 Backend

See you all next week!
